Light Has ComeSample

When Darkness Meets Light
Have you ever noticed how everything gets magnified at Christmas? The wonderful things feel more wonderful. But the hard things? They feel even harder.
Christmas has a way of lighting everything up, like turning on every lamp in the house. Suddenly, you see the dust you missed, the cracks in the walls, the things you’d rather keep hidden. Maybe Christmas is highlighting your loneliness this year. You’re surrounded by people, yet you feel isolated. Or perhaps it’s illuminating an emptiness inside—a dark cloud of depression you can’t quite shake off. For some, Christmas exposes what’s shattered or missing in your relationships.
Yet here’s the beautiful reality: Scripture begins with God piercing darkness. The very first words God spoke in Genesis 1:3 were, “Let there be light.” And at the very first Christmas, He did the exact same thing.
He pierced the darkness again. This time by sending His Son, Jesus, the Light of the World.
Think about that first Christmas. Mary, a teenage virgin, was told she would give birth to the Light of the World. Shepherds pulling an all-nighter with smelly sheep were suddenly overwhelmed by blinding light as angels announced peace on earth. Ancient astrologers followed a star that lit up the night sky, pointing them to Jesus. All this light was pointing to the Light.
Jesus came to bring light to your deepest questions and darkest moments. He’s not fazed by what you’re walking through. He’s not surprised by your struggle.
Jesus made this profound declaration in John 8:12: “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” Notice He didn’t say “a” light or “one of many” lights. He said, “I am the light.”
He’s saying you don’t have to stumble through life in darkness anymore. You don’t have to be haunted by your past or confused about your future.
This Christmas, whatever darkness you’re facing, remember: the Light has come. Not just to the world in general, but specifically for you. Jesus is the light on your roughest road, your beacon in every storm.
Will you let Him shine in your darkness today?
Pray
Jesus, thank You for piercing my darkness. I don’t have to pretend everything is fine. You see where I’m struggling, and You’re not afraid of it. Shine Your light into the dark places of my life today and help me walk in Your light. Amen.
