Joy Rules

DAY 21 OF 25

Paul is wrapping up his letter to the church in Philippi, but he keeps adding important reminders. He directs them to notice their thoughts and to keep applying what he’s taught them.

It takes some self-awareness to identify the content of our thoughts. Do you find yourself thinking about the types of things Paul describes or something else? What might help you stay more focused on things that fit Paul’s list?

Take a moment to list out some specific things that are true, honorable, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, and worthy of praise. How do you see these characteristics in your everyday life?

Paul also emphasizes that we shouldn’t only think about these things. We must put them into practice. Is there something you need to do that you’ve been taught? What’s the next step you need to take to move forward?

Practice: Think of someone you’ve seen do something good, beautiful, honorable, or truthful lately. Consider sending them a note of encouragement and let them know that you appreciate their example.

About this Plan

Joy Rules

Though he was captive in prison, Paul was captivated by Jesus. That makes him the perfect mentor for any of us who yearn to live with joy and contentment in spite of our troubles. During the Joy Rules reading plan, we'll trek through Paul's writings in the book of Philippians in search of the always-present, ever-accessible joy Jesus offers.
