CHILDREN: GOD'S ROYAL CHILDREN OBEY Do you like to be told what to do? No? Well, to be honest, I don't either. Inside each of our brains is a mulish arrogance, a perverse stubbornness to do everything our way. My agenda is what's important to me. Your agenda is not. Tell you what--people like that are unemployable. You can't hold a job if you aren't willing to serve someone else's needs and let someone else tell you what to do. This is why parents have such a crucial responsibility to teach their children to obey. You can reason with the kids later. You can discuss things with them later. Job one--obedience. If they can't learn to obey their parents, they will never learn to obey God, and that means spiritual death. In Isaiah 1:2 God laments the disobedience of his people: "I reared children and brought them up, but they have rebelled against me." There is a better way. Colossians 3:20 simply says, "Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord." Which way of life appeals more to you? Which way do you think God will bless?
