Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale Daily Devotional

DAY 279 OF 365

Ever-new In this, one of the more popular passages in the Book of Psalms, we see the exhortation to sing a "new song" to the Lord. In other words, there needs to be an element of newness and freshness to our faith. If not, our spirituality will eventually grow stale and stagnant, and all semblance of strength will slowly fade away. So how do we get and keep that? How do we make sure our faith is fresh and new? The answer is found in the words "For He...." It's the Lord who keeps things fresh and new. God never gets stale. He never stagnates. His fire never goes out. He's eternally exciting and infinitely innovative. Now, follow the flow of thought here. When we're in close contact and communion with Him, all these attributes are bound to have an effect on us. The more we expose our hearts to Him, the more like Him we'll become when it comes to this dynamic. Our faith will remain fresh, exciting, and innovative...and our praise will have a sense of newness about it. If you've found yourself in a state of spiritual staleness, if you can't remember the last time you've sung a "new" song to the Lord, examine how consistent and close you've been with Him. It's more than likely you haven't allowed Him to influence your heart with the freshness that fills His presence-which, in turn, fills our faith. Our Eternal Lord, we ask You to help us to be close to You and to always abide in Your presence. And as we do, we ask that our praise to You would remain fresh and new. There needs to be an element of newness and freshness to our faith. If not, our spirituality will eventually grow stale and stagnant, and all semblance of strength will slowly fade away. Think about it... What does this passage reveal to me about God? What does this passage reveal to me about myself? Based on this, what changes do I need to make? What is my prayer for today?
