DAY 272 OF 365

Dreaming of direction Like visions, dreams can also be employed by the Lord to lead people according to His will. God is able to direct His people via dreams, and we see a prime example in the case of Joseph. Notice the number of times God used dreams to direct Joseph in His will. Dream #1- Behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit." (Matthew 1:20 NKJV) Dream #2- Behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, "Arise, take the young Child and His mother, flee to Egypt, and stay there until I bring you word: for Herod will seek the young Child to destroy Him." (Matthew 2:13 NKJV) Dream #3- But when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph...saying, "Arise, take the young Child and His mother, and go to the land of Israel." (Matthew 2:19-20 NKJV) Dream #4- But when he [Joseph] heard that Archelaus was reigning over Judea instead of his father Herod, he was afraid to go there. And being warned by God in a dream, he turned aside into the region of Galilee. (Matthew 2:22 NKJV) You don't have to be a Bible scholar to see how God used dreams to direct Joseph. They were critical in enabling him to stay in step with what the Lord wanted, and they can be used in our own lives, as well. But as with visions, we need to make sure dreams aren't the only factor in discerning God's will for our lives. We need to remain open to God speaking to us through our dreams, but we must be careful to not "fall asleep" when it comes to the other important indicators that can point to His will. Like visions, dreams can also be employed by the Lord to lead people according to His will. God is able to direct His people via dreams, and we see a prime example in the case of Joseph. Think about it... What does this passage reveal to me about God? What does this passage reveal to me about myself? Based on this, what changes do I need to make? What is my prayer for today?
