DAY 102 OF 365

His Means, His Terms David had one destination in life. There was one place that his heart, mind, and feet were constantly pointed and directed toward, and that was God's holy hill, His tabernacle. However, we need to understand that for any Hebrew living in Old Testament times, God's holy hill and tabernacle was really representative of God's presence. It was a desired destination and location because that's where God would meet and commune with His people. So David's declaration here is a cry to be as close to the Lord as possible-to be in His presence. This was the magnetic north of his soul's compass. Everything was always pointing to the presence of God. Take note, though, of what he relied on in order to get him there, "Your light and Your truth." David didn't try to come into God's presence by an independent route. It was by God's means (His light), and on God's terms (His truth). We need to do the same. When we seek to be close to God or draw near to His presence, we have to recognize that it will only happen by His means, as He opens and illuminates our heart to apprehend Him. And we have to realize that it has to happen on His terms of truth, and that we make His Word our standard for approaching Him. We can't expect to draw close to the Lord if we're not doing things His way (i.e. pursuing sin while also pursuing Him). Light of the World, Eternal Truth...illuminate our eyes and instruct our hearts so that we may come into Your presence and draw as close to Your heart as humanly possible. When we seek to be close to God or draw near to His presence, we have to recognize that it will only happen on His terms of truth. Think about it... What does this passage reveal to me about God? What does this passage reveal to me about myself? Based on this, what changes do I need to make? What is my prayer for today?
