WordLive - Year One

DAY 291 OF 366

Prepare: God’s mercy is new every morning (Lamentations 3:22,23). What does this mean for you today? How does it change how you feel about your day? God’s provision God promises us all the resources we need for every day. Some days it’s not difficult; life goes quite smoothly and God’s grace is easy to see. Some days are more of a challenge and it feels harder to trust God for his provision. I guess this was one of those challenging days for Jacob. In fact, he no longer has a choice about trusting God. Although they have some items (nuts, balm, honey, spices, v 11), they don’t have staple foods and the famine is not letting up. In fact, it is only two years into its foretold seven-year run (41:27), although Jacob’s family may not know that. Relying on God Benjamin must go to Egypt with the other brothers if they are to receive food, and Jacob has to allow events to rest in God’s hands. He has no assurance of Benjamin’s wellbeing apart from Judah and Reuben’s personal pledges (v 9; 42:37), but if he is to save the family from starvation he has to trust that God is in control. Of course he hopes with his whole being that God will bring Benjamin back again but, as we also know, being reliant on God isn’t always emotionally easy! Respond: Trusting God isn’t always the easy choice, but it is always the way of blessing and of abundant life. What do you need to trust God with today? http://www.wordlive.org/Session/Classic/2012-10-17
