DAY 113 OF 366

Prepare: In today’s reading, David asks God a question. Ask God to show you the answer. Who is worthy? Have you ever looked at other members of your church and asked yourself, ‘What’s she doing here?’ David is watching worshippers make their way to the tabernacle for worship, and he asks the same question (v 1). The KJV puts it this way: ‘Lord, who shall abide in thy tabernacle? Who shall dwell in thy holy hill?’ It’s the same question put two different ways, which is a classic Hebrew technique. The ‘holy hill’ symbolically refers to the place where God dwells (48:1,2). The greatest commandments See how his response (vs 2,3) is covered by the second-greatest commandment: ‘Love your neighbour’ (Matthew 22:38). It’s all about interpersonal relationships. Verse 4 touches on the first and greatest commandment, ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart’ (Matthew 22:36,37). Perhaps that’s why Jesus called these two the greatest of the Ten Commandments. If we can only follow them, we will automatically cover the other eight. Jesus is the only way Take a look at the high standards all the way through this psalm. David says the righteous man who remains in God’s presence will never fall away. According to these standards, do you qualify? Does anyone? If we read this psalm in context with the previous and next psalms, it’s clear that there is only One who fits the description (Psalm 24:10). The only way we can satisfy these requirements is through the righteousness of Jesus Christ. Respond: Praise God that through Jesus you may gain access to God’s presence. http://www.wordlive.org/Session/Classic/2012-04-22
