God’s Love We cannot begin to fathom the great sacrifice God made for us in sending His Son or to consider such selfless love. The word used here for “love” is agapao. We more often recognize it as agape, and it is a uniquely Christian word. In the time of the New Testament it was virtually unused by writers outside of the believing community. Agapao is the word used for God’s unconditional love. It is love by choice. It does not need a “chemistry,” an affinity, or a feeling. The word denotes unconquerable benevolence and undefeatable goodwill. Agapao will never seek anything but the highest good for mankind. God, in His infinite, unconditional love for us, knew that the highest good for mankind would require the death of His Son—the ultimate sacrifice that can be made by a father. Yet, the Father and the Son willingly made that sacrifice because of Their great love for us. As we live in the life of God’s love, let us also live in constant praise for Jesus’ death for us and the Father’ s gift to us.
