Draw Near – 365 Guides to Greater Intimacy with GodSample
LOVE FORCE
A black militant screamed hatred at the prison chaplain, calling Christ a white man's God. In response, the chaplain put his arm around the youth's shoulders and shared with him the love of Christ. Love won out--the young man's life and thought patterns were changed. Love force is the greatest power in the world. Today, we read about this idea in God's Word.
Paul said there is a love that passes all human knowledge. Indeed, who can understand a mother's love or a father's concern? Who can explain a brother's love that does not stop at prison doors or in war's ugly face? Love cannot be understood in a world where some preach "survival of the fittest." But, love is there and love always wins. Love is greater than every life force.
The songwriter said, "Lord, now indeed I find thy power, and thine alone, can change the leper's spots, and melt the heart of stone." Men have found power to destroy, explode, and crush; but love builds, mends, and lifts. Paul's single prayer was that we might know that power of love which will change the world. Paul wanted to know, and for us to know, the love that surpasses all knowledge--the love of Christ.
