To Delight in the Lord: What does this mean?!
To delight in God means to bask in His presence; to be in awe;to be filled with joy; to become so overwhelmed at the awesome and magnificent nature of God that you laugh, cry, shout out to the sky or simply bow in reverent silence ;to faithfully fulfill the mandate to which He has called us in proclaiming His Word and building the Church; to rest in joyful assurance that He knows what is best for us. And so if we cling daily to God, He reveals His very nature to us, and through the help of the Holy Spirit, we too are able to take on such a nature, seeing things through God's eyes, wanting the same things God does, loving the same things God loves. As a result, our heart's desires, which should be that which is good and pure, will automatically fall in alignment with God's will for us because God's desires start to become our desires. Its like having a twin in some cases - you have spent so much time with that person that his/her wants and needs may start becoming your wants and needs.
There is also another part to the script. God knows the desires of our heart and sometimes we are convinced that God should grant us particular wants, and then, surprisingly for us, He doesn't! Our first reaction may be to sulk, complain and even dictate to the Creator Himself! But we must remember one thing: to delight ourselves in the Lord also means rejoicing in the Presence of God even when things do not turn out how we had desired. To delight in the Lord means seeing the good in disappointments, knowing and having that assurance that God always has our back. To delight ourselves in the Lord means rejoicing and continuing to live a life pleasing to God while fully understanding that God also withholds things from us because He loves us, therefore He may not grant us everything because He knows us a million times better than we could ever know ourselves!
So as we wait upon God to grant us our heart's desires, may we seek Him also with all our heart, exercising faith and patience as we stand assured that we serve a mighty and living Creator and God Who knows what is best for us, Who wants to see us prosper, and most of all Who wants to see us establish the ultimate relationship with Him.
