The Blame Game
"We are ruined by our own stupidity, though we blame the Lord." CEV
Today it's all about the blame game. It's so rare to find anyone willing to accept responsibility for their own actions. Our society enables and even encourages people to blame something or someone else for their actions.
We blame our government for failing to provide for our families - when it's not their responsibility, it's ours.
As parents, we abdicate responsibility for our children to teachers and day cares, and then wonder why our children rebel against us.
It's an endless cycle that keeps repeating and getting worse.
When we learn to accept responsibility for our own actions and choices, and accept that every choice has a consequence, and teach our kids that same thing, we will stop the cycle.
God gives us free will! He does not come down and make us do anything. It's all on us! When you make a mistake, and you accept the responsibility and the pay the consequences, you learn from them.
Most of us have learned the painful lesson of touching a hot stove or fire. Your parents tell you not to touch, they pull your hand away yet still you reach forward. And the moment your hand touches the fire or the hot stove, you learn! It's painful and it can even leave a scar but you have learned. Too many times, we want to shield those we love from making the same mistakes we have made. Yet sometimes we have to allow it for the learning to happen. When we don't allow the natural consequences to occur, we are leading them down a road that allows them to abdicate responsibility.
