Accountability is vital
Accountability is absolutely vital to your growth and walk as a Christian. Confessing sin to a brother or sister is not for forgiveness but for accountability, community, and restoration. The enemy of your soul wants to keep your sin a secret, to eat you silently from the inside out. If you are struggling in one particular sin, addiction, or have found yourself in a situation where you willingly or unwillingly committed a sin, first run to the throne of God, from your heart cry out in repentance. Because more than likely, conviction, which is of God, is tugging at your heart, and more than likely, shame and guilt, which is of Satan, is also trying to find place in your heart. As you repent and deal with conviction, be convicted to remain in communion and fellowship with a brother or sister in Christ and confess your sin(s). You will be surprised at the response of a community or a brother/sister that truly loves Christ and knows and has experienced Grace. People around you are struggling and have struggled with the same issues you are struggling with. Confess your sin to God to find mercy and forgiveness. Confess your sin to your brother or sister to find restoration and healing. A wound not properly exposed for treatment will only get worse, can develop an infection, can spread, and can end up costing more than if we sought proper treatment in the first place.
