Who is Theophilus?
Theophilus (THee-ah-pho-lus) was the benefactor, who supported the ministry, writings and research of Luke.
He was very affluent. Verse 3 suggests that he is a Roman governor, as Luke refers to him as "most honorable."
Being a governor, becoming a Christian very well might mean the end of his career - which led to his funding for Luke.
If he was to become a Christian, and risk it all, he needed to be certain that Jesus was the Way, the Truth, and the Light. (v4)
He commissions and funds Luke for this reason - "I've heard about Jesus; can you research all this... make sure this is what's right?"
The Christian world needs more people like Theophilus - Affluent or rich people who are willing to give generously to see God move in ministries and Churches.
