Worry. Hope in God
Thirteen millions days are lost a year due to stress. It is a big modern day concern. It is a modern day problem. In this most comfortable society stress is a problem. We all see life different and confront problems in a different way.
This is a very well known portion of scripture. It is a direct parallel to the sermon on the mount. The key to understanding it is Do Not worry. Jesus uses this statement 12 times in His ministry.
Worry comes from the root meaning to strangle or to choke.
Verse 22 tells us to stop worrying about the basic life necessities. Verse 32 tells us not to worry about things spiritually.
We have to recognise God's purpose. Jesus is talking to His disciples. To those who have chosen to follow Him. He has been talking to the rich man before this. He connects this passage by saying that is why I tell you in verse 22. God will take care of us. He knows what we need.
If God has brought you into His kingdom He has a purpose for you. The Lord is my shepherd I shall not be in want. Why? For His names's sake.
We also have to recognise God provides. Jesus points to the birds to make His point. Every bird that has ever lived God wanted it to live. He provided it food. Verse 24 tells us are we not far more valuable than they?
Birds are always on the go. Birds work, we have to work. He gives us skills. He expects us to get up and do something, not just sit and worry about it.
He provides food and also life. The Lord gives life and takes it away. So many people are scared to die. Worry won't lengthen life. Know your purpose is to serve Him. We can't add a single hour to our life.
He provides food, life and clothes. He points around to the lilies. Look at them they don't work for their beauty. Solomon with all his wealth was not dressed like one of these.
Fear worry and anxiety is about a lack of faith. We have a problem trusting God completely for our needs but we shouldn't.
We must see God as our Heavenly Father.
Verse 30 tells us these things are what the unbelievers think about. They spend their time worrying whereas we as Christians should know that our Father knows all our needs and will provide.
We need to pray with thanksgiving.
We need to get our mind right.
We need to practice practice practice.
Face life armed with His word. We are to be doers not just hearers.
We should pray, think and take action. God is in control.
