Eternal life through works?
Now someone came up to him and said, “Teacher, what good thing must I do to gain eternal life?” He said to him, “Why do you ask me about what is good? There is only one who is good. But if you want to enter into life, keep the commandments.” (Matthew 19:16, 17 NET)
Is Jesus teaching salvation through law here? Some might argue that Jesus hadn't yet died and that this man was still under law - true, but Jesus was about to die so why would He give this man advice that was about to change, if this was the case?
You see, Jesus is coming back for a spotless bride without blemish or wrinkle.
So does this mean we are saved by works? No! We are saved by faith and grace, but the out working of those two things will be a changed life that means we will be able to sin no more.
The Word says to be holy as He is holy (1 Pet 1:16). Would God have given us this command if it were impossible? I don't think so.
Praise our Father in heaven. If we have faith to believe in a full transformation into His likeness then we will be transformed by the grace of God, and become His bride without spot or wrinkle.
