Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes;
fear the Lord and shun evil. This will bring health to your body
and nourishment to your bones.
-Proverbs 3:5-8 NIV
Have you ever said, "I want to spend more time with God"? Or how about..
"I just really need to do something for God"
And "he needs me in Ministry"
Something is fundamentally wrong with saying those sayings..
If we go through life resolving to "being with God more"
This is a faulty understanding of who God is.
It's like saying, " I need to spend time with the lifeguard to learn how to swim", verses, "help! I am drowning and need help"
Everyday ought to be the desperation of NEEDING God and His Word.
We are like drowning swimmers, we need a rescuer.
You never know when you will end your earthly life..
Instead of saying, "Tomorrow, we are going to the lake", say, "Lord willing, we will got o the lake.
It's not the way a person should live their life (like a guaranteed tomorrow).
5 questions to ask text when your "planning ahead".
1) What are we to do?
"Trust in the Lord..."
*Verse 5 clearly says: (Trust in the Lord)*
We just say the right things, the Old Testament is not just what you say, it's how you show your faith. It's not a verbal confession, it's what you act out.
Noah built an ark, because trusting in the Lord is an ACTION. You live according to the way He speaks and says.
2) How are we to do it?
"With all your heart,."
*Passage says: (your all should be consumed from your trust in the Lord.)
"..just follow your heart" ..
That saying gets you in trouble!
The heart is wicked! Your heart wants things that can be deadly
*Romans 3:1-3 says that the heart is corrupted by sin*
So make sure you love the Lord with ALL your heart, or there will be a war in your heart, trust!
3) What are we not to do
"and do not lean on your own understanding"
The same as your heart, If you rely on your own understanding, it gets you in a lot of trouble
If your on a diet, and you see a fat free cookie, and you eat tons and tons. Your mind thinks its right. But then you find out its loaded with sugar, and might as well eat sugar, because it's fat free too!
When your heart or mind has an appetite of its own, you have to have someone to clear up the war inside.
We will listen to the voices that tell us what we desire, versus what we desire.
DON'T lean on your own understanding.
4) What are we to do instead
"in all your ways, acknowledge him,"
Not just in the big events, everything in prayer and thanksgiving
Everything needs to be brought to the Lord to acknowledge Him!
5) What will God do for us
"and he will make
straight your paths"
Doesn't mean there will be detours, you will be met with dry hopes and deep ends.
Ask the Lord to straighten your personal path.
What we really need in life is for God to be with us. He is making our paths straight.
