Isaiah 26:3 (NLT)
You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!
I sometimes wonder if I have CADHD - Church Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. Many times I can be at church during prayer and my mind will wander off. The minister or intercessor can be giving a powerful prayer and my mind shifts to "will the Titans win today" or "will I see so-and-so at church today, or "what am I gonna eat later today." Oftentimes, I have to do an individual prayer as the person praying is up to refocus my mind on prayer. This has nothing to do with the power of the prayer being given. It has to do with all the stuff cluttered in my mind that are not kingdom.
Before you start calling me a heathen, let's evaluate your time at church. Are you there to show off your new outfit? Are you there to find your husband? Are you there to find the next notch on your bedpost? Are you there to let everyone hear your choir solo and show off your voice? Are you there to spread gossip and start mess? So many of us go into God's house with our minds set on ungodly things. The Lord is the last thing on our minds.
If we want perfect peace in our hectic lives, we must learn to train our minds to keep our thoughts on God. And this is not only during church service or during prayer. This is all day long. When we are thinking about cussing that co-worker out. When our flesh is hot and we are about to extinguish it with a random body. When we have lost our faith because things in live have gotten beyond terrible. We tend to focus on the wrong things and make the wrong decisions. If we focus on God, turn to Him, and seek His counsel with prayer, meditation, and listening, He will guide us through all of our struggles. When your mind starts wandering the wrong way, refocus on God. Allow Him to change your thoughts to His perfect peace.
