I. Why did the Sanhedrin want to kill Jesus?
A. They envied Jesus because He was getting the attention they had formerly gotten.
1. In application, many are as envious of the righteous standard of Christ and Christians as the Sanhedrin were.
II. Why did Pilate want to kill Jesus?
A. Pilate was scared of the rebellion that could follow his just decision of not crucifying Jesus.
1. In application, many [including Christians] are the same cowardly character as Pilate, passing up the opportunity to act in justice when in the face of adversity.
III. Why did Barabbas wan to kill Jesus?
A. Barabbas wants to kill Jesus because he [in his self-righteousness] believes he deserves to be freed by the people.
1. This comes as he was most likely a peasant individual who led a revolt against the wealthy of Israel.
a. Thus said, he probably felt as though he had done more for the people than Jesus had which would merit his being freed by the crowds.
IV. Why did the crowds want to kill Jesus?
A. The crowds want to kill Jesus because they thought he would be a warrior king [based upon the title Messiah] who would restore Israel to power.
1. In application, this individual is commonly seen as the one who expects great miracles from Christ but is disappointed by the fact that He is a suffering servant rather than a warrior king.
V. What will you do with Jesus?
A. You could put Him back on the cross.
B. OR…you could cry out for Him to be your Savior.
