Table for One (Bowie)
How many of us are tired of, whenever we see our relatives, family saying, "When are you going to get married?" or "When are you going to have kids?" For those who are single, they say, "God, I've been praying and seeking. Why won't you bring somebody?" Is there a personal thing that we can't see ourselves? Is God punishing us? Nobody wants to be the creepy old cat lady. Right? Or Mike, who grows up to play Dungeons & Dragons all his life. Johnson Bowie, at http://www.fusionatl.org/p/12081/Default.aspx, continues his "Know Fear" series by asking the question, "Why are we so afraid of loneliness?" Who are we going to watch Titanic with? For some of us, it's not a relevant fear, but for others of us, it definitely is. Genesis 2 says that it's not good for man to be alone and that we shall be joined as one. But Satan tries to come in and turn that into an idol in our lives. Guys start going to places where they normally wouldn't go and women start advertising themselves to get noticed. We serve what we fear. What ends up happening then is that we end up choosing what looks good instead of choosing God. It's like we fear that God has dropped us into the seat cushions and one day He's going to finally find us. Do we really think He's forgotten us. Why do we live this way? No person or thing is worth dropping our relationship with God. Why do we think that marriage solves all of our problems? Sometimes, our problems actually get worse when we marry. But what many fail to realize is that if we are lustful before marriage we will be lustful after marriage. If we are lonely, then we will probably be more lonely when we marry!! This is because lust and lonliness are both SPIRITUAL issues. They are issues because we have a hole in our hearts that needs to be filled. In Genesis, it says that we will be bound as one in marriage. But so many people thing that it is simple math. Half a person plus half a person is a whole peron. But it's not addition, it's multiplication. See, a saved, redeemed person going after Jesus times one saved, redeemed person going after Jesus equals one!! But one jacked-up, broken half of a person times one jacked-up, broken half of a person equals 1/4 of a person!! We can't be completed by someone in marriage if we aren't whole. Forget Jerry Macquire's "You complete me." It's a load of crap! Only God can do this as we see in Philippians 1:7. God answers our prayers and stays with us when we need Him. We have to learn to be satisfied as single person before we can be satisfied as a married person. Johnson loves his son, Jeremiah, but as a father he has learned so much about how God sees us. He used to think that God would bless Him with everything he wanted. But, as a father, it's much easier to understand why a BAD father would be one who gives us what we want without the relationship. The Bible says that God is a good Father, but he won't give us something that will ruin our relationship with Him. Why would He do that? He is not afraid to pull people out of our lives, nor is He afraid to bring people into our lives. Are we trying to find "the One" or are we trying to become the One worth finding. We can only do that by going to the One; Jesus Christ.
