Our greatest growth in the Lord often occurs when we are engulfed in the flames of adversity.
The king gathered everyone in his kingdom to worship a golden idol he built in his own image. He gave this order, when the music plays you must bow down to the statue.
God gave us the ability to enjoy music as another means to praise Him. This deception and deviation is still happening today. It was sin then, it is sin now.
On this day there were in excess of 300,000 people in the plains of Dura. Have you ever heard this phrase? 'Everybody else is doing it.' Just because everyone else is doing it doesn't mean its not sin. Its still sin and God will judge you for it. You will have to stand alone to follow God.
When the music began to play a sea of people bowed down with the exception of three men. The king found out and was furious. He called the three men before him and demanded an explanation and that they bow down before the statue.
The king said 'If you will bow down now, then everything will be forgiven. If not what God will deliver you from my hands?"
The time is coming when you will have to choose the one you will serve. If you make the right decision it might mean the furnace. Better the furnace than eternal death.
Daniel 3:16-18; Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego replied to him, "King Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you in this matter. If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us from it, and he will deliver us from Your Majesty's hand. But even if he does not, we want you to know, Your Majesty, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up."
There are things that are more important than life. A soldier wrote a letter to his young son and with this explanation. "Life and death doesn't matter. Right and wrong does." (Excerpt from a serviceman's letter to his son.)
The king commanded they make the furnace three times hotter. Then he commanded his soldiers to throw them in. The fire was so hot it killed the soldiers.
The king was astonished! He asked "Weren't there three men that we tied up and threw into the fire?" Then when he heard his aides confirm what he thought he said, "Look! I see four men walking around in the fire, unbound and unharmed, and the fourth looks like a son of the gods."
As long as Jesus is there, no fire is too hot! Don't avoid the flames. Avoid dishonoring the Kings of Kings!
The king now had a different attitude. He asked "Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, servants of the Most High God, come out! Come here!"
The king then began a transformation. The reason he had a change of heart was because three men refused to do what they knew was wrong even when everyone else did.
A Church or a person that will make a difference is the one that will not compromise with the world.
