Peter's Problem Series Pt 1: The Cause of Peter's Problem
1.the first cause was his SELF-CONFIDENCE
Peter and JESUS were not on the same page.
Peter implies that he had an overbearing opinion of his own strength
Proving himself to be the "rock man" that JESUS said he was.
he exalted himself at the expense of others
Lots of physical courage but low on moral courage. (cut of the solider's ear but couldnt tell the truth about his relationship with JESUS)
2.The second cause was his neglect of prayer and failure to watch.
never paid attention to the teaching
he let the warning slip away into his sleepiness
The redemption came for Peter because:
he fell far but never away...
Jesus' intercession kept him on the right path
years later when he thought of his own lack of watchfulness and his neglect he said
3.It was caused by following far off
"How little can I do and be alright with you?"
he was unsociable and unresponsive because of:
his fear of people/the crowd
didnt have the moral credit to share in the abuse, shame and discredit being done to JESUS
Physical distance=Moral Distance
when our priorities are different fom GOD's we are in trouble-Leads to death
Nearness CHRIST=Love, Light and Life
when we are out of GOD's range we are exposed to danger and temptation
4.The cause of the sin problem was bad company.
started acting like they act
makes the bad company think "what good is discipleship with JESUS? They couldnt be too happy because they are here with me to be happy"
Peter should have been
-True to his confession
-stayed away from bad company
