All of us know what parasites are but to have a full appreciation for this scripture to delve into the process in which a parasite uses it's host to accomplish it's desired outcome. Consider the following: Parasitism is a type of symbiotic relationship between organisms of different species where one organism, the parasite, benefits at the expense of the other, the host. (Wikipedia). In this scripture we are asked to avoid parasitic sin, avoid what is different from us (sin) because we are born of Christ, because sin benefits itself at our expense. Traditionally parasite referred to organisms with lifestages that went beyond one host. (Wikipedia). The enemy has been around longer that us and is more experienced than us. And will continue his schemes and antics until Christ comes. And that may very well be after many of us are gone.
Unlike predators, parasites are generally much smaller than their host...Parasite show a high degree of specialization for their mode of life, and reproduce at a faster rate than their hosts. (Wikipedia). Satan is highly specialized in trying to infatuate our lives, and once he has done this, we serves as models for others (children, peers, and strangers alike). This begins a snowball effect that causes this microscopic sin to not only use us but reproduce at a faster rate than we can control. So it is vital that we are disciplined and rely on Him to aide us in avoiding parasitic sin.
