Gideon needed confirmation and assurance, re-assurance that God was with him and that he would be able to deliver Israel.
I used to criticize Gideon as thou he didn't have faith that he actually heard from God and that God will do exactly what He say.
As I've grown I must say Gideon did what we should be doing, that is praying, asking God for signs to make sure we are not acting on self will. Oh, yes we trust God, however; we get our will confused with the will of God.
How many people we or we ourselves have stated God told us to do something and later discovered it was in fact self-will that injected itself and we called it and confessed it to be the s spirit of God?
It is absolutely nothing wrong with asking God to affirm His Word in us. Re-assurance from Him is not a lack of faith, It is dependence on Him instead of us.
