Righteous stewardship vs the abusive, irresponsible, and ignorant
Jesus outlines the different kinds of servants and how the master will deal with each:
1. Righteous stewardship: using his authority to provide for others at the proper time. The master will set him over all his possessions and he will be blessed.
2. Abusive: taking advantage of his position to beat the others, to treat himself to food and drink and getting drunk since he thinks the master is not returning. The master will make a surprise visit and cut him in pieces and judge him.
3. Irresponsible: knowing what the master wanted, but did not do it, he didn't take responsibility to fulfill the master's will, but lazily did nothing or did his own business. The master will beat them as punishment, but they are not put out.
4. Ignorant: they didn't know the master's will and did things that were contrary. They will be beaten as punishment, but only lightly since they did not know. They are not put out.
Summary: according to the level of authority Christ has graciously given each of us, we will be measured and according to the level of responsibility we have been entrusted we will be required to give an account.
