Obedience equals Joy
Jesus' promise to us.
If you are carrying a coffee cup full of coffee and someone bumps into you, what comes out? Coffee. When you get bumped, knocked off your feet, turned upside down, then joy should come out of you. I want joy jammed into me, so that joy comes out. Jesus asked his father, God, that his joy might be complete in us.
Who wants to ooze with joy? But there is a condition to this promise. Vs 10 "if you keep my commandments, then you will be in my love." Obedience to our Father, leads me on a path that is victorious, that brings joy to my life. If I'm being disobedient to the Father, then I'm missing out in the joy promised to me.
How many of us are walking the path he has told us to walk (obedience)? Or do we choose a different path, even right next (parallel) to the path we are told to take? Have we shifted, rationalized, justified, that this other path will get us to the same place?
John 3:36 ...but he who does not believe (obey), ... The wrath of God abides on him.
Jesus is saying: If you are not living in me, then God's wrath is living on you.
Matthew 7:21, ... Not everyone who says Lord, Lord will enter the kingdom...
Why? Because they are not fulfilling the word, they are not being obedient.
Back to John 15: Jesus is the vine, God is the keeper of the vineyard (he is responsible for the fruit that is pure). Vs. 6, the empty fruitless branch is thrown in the fire.
What fruit is produced in you? Is it Joy?
If the joy is not overflowing within us, we cannot fake it.
Jesus only talks about two kinds of branches, one that bears fruit and one that does not. Vs. 2 says if you don't bear fruit, the vibe dresser will pull you out, and Vs. 6 fruitless branches (fakes, impostors, has all the appearances of being a branch ie. Judas) will be cast out. Are you someone who walks the "Christian" walk and talk the talk, but are fruitless?
What is bearing fruit? Love, Joy, Obedience (not man-made things, God-made things)
Humble yourself and seek his face. Turn from our worthless, selfish, vile ways. Don't just "look" like a branch; BE a branch with fruit (abide in him). If we abide in him, he will abide in us. Will you pick up His Word and follow him, or will you live your own life? There will be a time when the vine dresser will come and pluck you off. Where will you be when your time comes? A fruitless branch or one producing fruit through Christ. You cannot produce this fruit on your own, but by following (obedience) Jesus.
