a summons not an invitation!
This man wants more!
Paul Introduces Jesus in His Letter
Romans 1:1-4 (NIV)
Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle and set apart for the gospel of God— the gospel he promised beforehand through his prophets in the Holy Scriptures regarding his Son, who as to his earthly life was a descendant of David, and who through the Spirit of holiness was appointed the Son of God in power by his resurrection from the dead: Jesus Christ our Lord.
In Romans 1:1-2, Paul writes to the church that the gospel, the good news (promised beforehand by prophets hundreds of years before) boiled down to one thing, one man: Jesus.
He was simply known by most people of his day as Jesus…Jesus of Nazareth or Jesus son of Joseph…but that all changed at the moment of the resurrection. When the stone rolled away and He physically emerged from the grave He became Jesus Christ our Lord. "...who through the Spirit of holiness was declared with power to be the Son of God by his resurrection from the dead." (Romans 1:4)
Do You Believe He Is Risen?
“The issue on which everything hangs is not whether or not you like his teaching but whether or not he rose from the dead.” (Tim Keller, The Reason for God)
“The most radical demand of Christian faith lies in summoning the courage to say yes to the present risenness of Jesus Christ.” (Brennan Manning, Abba's Child)
He was a real person "...who as to his human nature was a descendant of David." (Romans 1:3)
Start with Obedience
Matthew 7:26 (NIV)
But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand.
Jesus the Christ
Christ/Christos - Anointed (Greek), Messiah (Hebrew).
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. (Isaiah 9:6)
Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. (Matthew 28:18)
From that time on Jesus began to preach, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near." (Matthew 4:17)
Jesus Christ Our Lord
Lord = master…clear allusion to His identity as our God.
“...son of God." (from Romans 1:4)
The resurrection confirmed that Jesus was and is indeed divine.
Posture and Attitude of Humility before God
Job 42:5-6 (NIV)
My ears had heard of you but now my eyes have seen you.
Therefore I despise myself and repent in dust and ashes."
Repent, Obey, Follow
When you do decide to join Christ in His kingdom mission and when you do surrender to the Lord God of the universe, He will extend grace and mercy and call you His child…and eternal life (the life of the heavens) will begin immediately and stretch beyond your mortal existence. Now, what will you do? Today is YOUR defining moment.
