Finding Direction From God
1 Samuel 10:6, 7
The Spirit of the Lord will come powerfully upon you, and you will prophesy with them; and you will be changed into a different person. Once these signs are fulfilled, do whatever your hand finds to do, for God is with you.
After many years of walking with the Lord this passage sums up what I've discovered about finding God's direction for my life. At salvation the Spirit of the Lord comes upon us and we are "changed into a different person". From that day on God is with us and His direction for us is most often simply doing what our hands find to do.
I once thought God's direction for us was like the footprints they used to put on a dance floor to teach folks the steps.Step here, then there; every move is carefully choreographed and one wrong step will mess up everything. But I have discovered God has brought us into a relationship and, like me with my children, he often seems to say, "Do what you want to do. I'll bless you either way you go."
As St. Augustine said, "Love God and do what you want." If we truly are seeking His kingdom first, delighting in Him, He will give us the desires of our heart - He will plant in our heart the desires that He wants to be there. So "what we want" will be what He wants. If we start to go astray, "if we turn to the right or to the left" (Isaiah 30:21), He will let us know we are off course but, if we are hearing nothing from Him, just keep moving.
Oswald Chambers said it like this, "When you are rightly related to God, it is a life of freedom and liberty and delight, you are God’s will, and all your common-sense decisions are His will for you unless He checks. You decide things in perfect delightful friendship with God, knowing that if your decisions are wrong He will always check; when He checks, stop at once."
If you are wondering if you are in God's will you can be assured you are because, believe me, if you are out of His will He has ways of letting you know loudly and clearly. So relax, go, have a great day. Be a blessing and do what your hands find to do.
Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart.
And if you leave God's paths and go astray, you will hear a Voice behind you say, "No, this is the way; walk here."
