Deut 7:25 - Bad Business
Moses told the people that they will inherit houses, land, animals, gold, silver, etc when they enter into the Promised Land. All of this stuff would be theirs. However, if they found their gods which had gold and silver on it they were to destroy those gods along with the gold and the silver that was on it. That sounds like bad business right? I mean, why not remove the gold and silver and use it to start an orphanage or give it to the poor? God says NO! He even wants the valuable stuff that was associated with that false god to be destroyed as well.
This reminds me of the Lottery. Everyone wanting to get rich, throwing their money at it in hopes to obtain riches, while God frowns on it as we prove faithless stewards of His money. One day a man told my dad that he had made quite a bit of money by winning the Lottery and he wanted to donate 30k to my dad's ministry. My dad refused it because he said the Lottery didn't honor the Lord and therefore he couldn't accept something of value from something that God sees as value-less. The Lottery stands in the way of people being good stewards of their money and therefore we can't accept even the gold or silver of that god! WOW! That's powerful.
This is a principle everyone in business should pay attention to - It doesn't matter how much money it makes if it's not right. The way you derive monetary value has to be something that honors the Lord - no amount of giving will please God when the maner in which you received the money doesn't please Him. If you honor God He will honor you, and you will find that you will have plenty of opportunities to dishonor Him and make a killing! But those who stay true to Him will find that true riches do not rest in bank accounts!
