Deut 7:22 - Slowly the Beasts will go away *
God rarely gives us all He's promised all at once - when He promised Abraham he would have a son it took 20+ years for it to happen. When David was anointed king he didn't inherit the throne for many years. When the Israelites came into the Promised Land they weren't able to destroy all the people at once - it happened little by little. We see in Proverbs how Solomon talks a lot about "diligence" and how precious it is to those who have it. Diligence is the ability to do something slowly and methodically without stopping. It's persistance. Not giving up or quitting, but taking your time and doing things right.
Why would God make us do things diligently? Why can't we just have it all at once? Because the beasts would destroy us! Look at the latter part of vs 22 of Deut 7 - if all the people died then nobody would be left to keep the animals under control, and these animals would ultimately grow so numerous that they would overpower the Israelites. So God orchestrated things so that the Israelites couldn't kill everyone all at once, even though He commanded them to be exterminated! It's like when God told Jeremiah to prophesy then He caused his tongue to stick to the roof of his mouth. The very thing God commanded Jeremiah to do he couldn't do. Why? Because God was making Jeremiah into the person he needed to BE before He allowed Jeremiah to DO the things He wanted him to DO! He was preparing Jeremiah. There were beasts out there that Jeremiah couldn't see, and if he just started speaking the very moment God gave him the command then he would've been devoured by those beasts!
God rarely grants us what He promises until we have become the people He wants us to become, and this takes time! It requires diligence on our parts, slowly and methodically obeying Him in all the small things so that one day we can prove faithful in the big things. If we rush out there and grab ahold of what God has promised then we'll find that the beasts who would have been devoured over time will actually devour us! We can't let that happen!
