Deut 6:5-9 / Deut 11:18-21 - It's written all over your face! *

- Deuteronomy 6:7 (NASB)
- Deuteronomy 6:8 (NASB)
- Deuteronomy 6:9 (NASB)
Moses just explained to the people that they should fear the Lord, now he is encouraging them to love Him as well. But the basis of this love is to first admit that He's the only true God - that He is not only number One but He is the only One. We also see Jesus in Mark 12:29-34 giving this same response to a Pharisee as to which commandment is the greatest - He responds in the same manner that Moses encouraged the people to do before they entered the Promised Land. That LOVE will be your guide! If you LOVE God you will keep His commandments - you won't have to focus on the Commandments if you just focus on the Love you have for Him, and we are to love Him with our entire being - our affections, our thoughts, our strength - our "everything!" This was an ossum marching order!
In these 2 chapters of Deuteronomy (6:5-9 / 11:18-21) Moses goes even further and explains how a person could make sure that this love would not decay in the hearts of those who enter their new territory. He says to: 1) Meditate (to think deeply on God's Word) 2) Educate children (pass down His truths to the next generation) 3) Pious Discourse (talk about the things of God amongst family and friends) 4) Frequent reading of the Word (it's like air to your lungs - you have to have it!). Do these things and you won't forget to Love God.
Moses didn't say that the 10 Commandments should be on your heart - he said, "these words." Which words? The ones he just said - God is the only God and that you are to Love Him with your entire being! So if you keep these words in your heart and teach them to your kids and talk about them to your friends and you write them on your hands and on your foreheads and the door of your house and all on your gates then there's nowhere anyone can go to get away from these words. They're everywhere! So if someone sees you they see God's Love. Why? Because it's written all over your face!
This is exactly what we must do today - to have God's Word all inside us and all over us! So when someone does business with us or see us at a ballgame or come visit us at our house then we will be the living, breathing Word of God! And all of this happens because of Love! Our Love for Him propels us to do these things, and the more we do these things the more we Love Him. And it all starts because He first loved us and adopted us as His kids - we became His sons and daughters and this completely changes our identities. We don't do the things we used to do because we're not the people we used to be! We love our new dad!
