Ethical living is not optional
Paul wrote a letter to the churches in Galatia to correct the teachings from the Judaizers that they must be circumcised in order to be saved. Here Paul addressed the church to correct the way they were treating each other.
In the prior chapter, he described the fruit of the Spirit versus the works of the flesh. If they as believers produced good fruit, they would gain a harvest of good in the present as well as in the age to come. If they continued to live by their sinful flesh, their would be consequences in the present. When they stood before God for judgment, they would have to give an account for every word and deed.
We are commanded to love others as ourselves. Jesus actually told us that we are to love one another as He had loved us-- a very tall order indeed. This is how the world will know that we belong to Jesus-- by our love. Our faith is made alive through love that is demonstrated openly. Living ethically is not optional. By this, we bear much fruit.
