Matt 26:52 - Disarmed
Shortly before Peter cut off the son of the high priest's ear he emphatically told Jesus that he would never deny Him. We all know how that story turned out - Peter didn't seem to have any clue who he really was deep down. But before Peter got to the point where he would deny Jesus, coming face to face with the ugliness that was truly inside him, Jesus had to "disarm" him. Imagine the thoughts going through Peter's mind when Jesus said he would be handed over and beaten and killed - Peter was probably thinking, "not on my watch! I have my sword right here and I will fight to the death." What Peter didn't realize was that the weapon of choice for him was the wrong weapon, hence the reason Jesus had to disarm him. Now, Peter is weaponless - his king is being beaten while Peter stands idly by, denying any affiliation he ever had with Jesus. He was exposed, like a man caught in a fight that had no weapon to fight with. He was undone.
