U Snooze, U Lose
Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.
Godly men often keep ungodly hours so they can spend time with God.
I am not "a morning person" and I see no logical reason for it but I have found I connect better with God early in the morning. It obviously has nothing to do with God who lives in all time zones at all times so it must have something to do with our human nature. It was true even for Jesus when He walked the earth.
Manna was to be gathered in the morning because "when the sun grew hot, it melted away" (Exodus 16:21) and you can bet the sun got hot as soon as it rose in the desert. If an Israelite wanted to enjoy "bread from heaven" he had to roll out of his tent early.
Of course, there is no Biblical command to rise early. (Perhaps that is because in most cultures and most times throughout history life was regulated by the light of the sun. When it got dark you went to bed. When it got light you got up. Without electricity to entertain us into the wee hours everyone rose early. We saw this while living in Central America. Life started early every morning.)
Though there is no command, we have the example of men and women in Scripture. Do a study and you will see Abraham, Jacob, Moses, Joshua, Gideon, on and on the list goes of those who rose early. Read the journals and writings of great men and women of modern times, Christian and non-Christian, and you find they too were early risers. Mother Teresa regularly rose at 4am to pray.
If you want to connect with the Lord, it seems He has lots of openings in His appointment calendar early in the morning. Why not set an appointment with Him bright and early tomorrow morning? Just get up one hour earlier - if you try to match Mother T's 4am you will likely get discouraged (and very tired). Set the alarm one hour earlier, get to bed one hour earlier and see how your time with the Lord goes and let me know.
How long will you lie there, you sluggard? When will you get up from your sleep? A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest--- and poverty will come on you like a bandit and scarcity like an armed man.
