Purging the Guilt of Innocent Blood
I find it interesting that God's word explicitly states that for intentional criminal acts, "we shall not pity him" but "purge the guilt of innocent blood". It further goes on to say that "so it may be well with you".
I don't know how many times I observe in our now defunct justice system, pandering and pitying the transgressor. It seems that not only the depraved 21st century mind has the propensity to pity the criminal but it was obviously an issue worthy of God's attention. While much has changed, much of humanity remains exactly the same.
