Riddle me this
Samson sounds a little demanding doesn't he?
Samson went down to Timnah and saw a young Philistine woman there. He went back and told his father and his mother: "I have seen a young Philistine woman in Timnah. Now get her for me as a wife." (Judges 14:1, 2 HCSB)
Samson thinks he's at Burger King ordering what he wants! And.....He wants it now!
But his father and mother said to him, "Can't you find a young woman among your relatives or among any of our people? Must you go to the uncircumcised Philistines for a wife?"
But Samson told his father, "Get her for me, because I want her." (Judges 14:3 HCSB)
This seems to be the beginning of a downward spiral ...
God had his plans, and nothing would stop them!
But I have to wonder if Samson's plans and God's didn't exactly mesh!
Does God condone such behavior as Samson exudes in this chapter?
I can't imagine that he does!
Samson was demanding and arrogant!
But he WAS brave!
Suddenly a young lion came roaring at him, the Spirit of the Lord took control of him, and he tore the lion apart with his bare hands as he might have torn a young goat. But he did not tell his father or mother what he had done. (Judges 14:5, 6 HCSB)
Yes, Samson was strong! His physical strength was astonishing! But he was a little weak when it came to his emotions! They tended to rule him.
His humbleness is shocking- because there is none!
He doesn't just kill lions though! He kills people! 30 men died by his hands over a riddle that he gave them to figure out the meaning.
He broke several of his Nazerite vows!
He could've easily used anger management classes!
He was spoiled rotten...maybe literally!!
The woman he had to have he now despised! She was given to the best man at his wedding!
And Samson’s wife was given to his best man. (Judges 14:20 NCV)
But in spite of it all,..God used him to accomplish HIS will!
Now riddle me this....
Why does God use people like Samson?
Like me...and you?
How can he love us so?
Why does he keep taking us back when we betray Him!
Why doesn't HE throw HIS bride away?
Yeah, riddle me that one!
