who says you can retire?
Who says you can retire?
When Joshua was very old, the Lord said to him, “Joshua, you have grown old, but there is still much land for you to take. (Joshua 13:1 NCV)
People often feel that! That when they're old, they're done with. Let someone else do the work! Usually when they feel that their purpose is gone, they can no longer run and do things like they use to, they die.
Joshua may think its time to sit back and enjoy life a little! He's been waiting for retirement! He's done his work, he's finished!
But God is not finished with Joshua!
There's STILL much for Joshua to do!
I don't think retirement Is a bible term.
Maybe Joshua couldn't go into battle with the young strong warriors, but He could still strategize and delegate!
And what is to be done is to take the land and divide it! They're STILL fighting in Israel over the land! We can see that when Joshua didn't destroy the Gibeonites it would effect people forever.
Because the Israelites did not force out the people of Geshur and Maacah, they still live among the Israelites today. (Joshua 13:13 NCV)
Joshua was like an aging parent, but I don't see where Joshua ever had children. Israel WAS his children. And before he died he had to divide the inheritance up! If the inheritance isn't divided up the children will fight for it!
Don't you see it in families today? Goodness it is in our family!
If you don't divide the inheritance it will divide the family! And sometimes even when things are written in the will, exactly what to do... they fight.
And Israel still fights for their inheritance! Fighting for what God has given them! There should be no squabbles over who's is who's because it's here to see. Written in the Word!
There is work for all of until God takes us home! If you're in a wheelchair, in a coma, or just in a hard place where you just want to give up! Don't! God can still touch other lives because you're is still alive!
When my dad was in A coma a couple of days before he died , I wondered why didn't the Lord just take him home? He was ready. But God wasn't!
And at the time us children gathered by his bedside, talked and sang to him! People came to visit every day that we don't always get to see. Was it for US that he was still alive! To bring us closer
and do a work in us? I think so!
There is work for all of until God takes us home! If you're in a wheelchair, in a coma, or just in a hard place where you just want to give up! Don't! God can still touch other lives because you are still alive!
Don't retire! At least not completely! If you retire dive into what GOD HAS for you to do!
He's not finished with any of us until we go home!
THEN...we can say were finished'!
