Dont swerve to the left
Don't swerve to the left
Joshua 11 1-23
This chapter could be a box office smash playing on the epic screens
in theaters across the country!
Can you see Mel Gibson playing
So the armies of all these kings came together with their horses and chariots. There were as many soldiers as grains of sand on the seashore. (Joshua 11:4 NCV)
You can see it now, the cameras captures long shots of the multitudes of warriors in the distance! You can feel the adrenaline kick in...
It shouldn't be hard! 5 of the area Kings joined alliances to wipe these people called Israel...out! Together they should be able to conquer these guys pretty easily!
The blood bath is about to begin, but this isn't fiction, this isn't a movie, YET! This is the real stuff!
There will be real people, real suffering, real death!
Sad, but true... This is the ravishes of war and there are thousands slaughtered that day and Israel, outnumbered 5 to 1, are the
What was this war about? Why did God tell Joshua to go in and wipe everyone off the map!
Joshua captured all of these cities, killed all of their kings, and completely destroyed everything in these cities. He did this just as Moses, the servant of the Lord, had commanded. (Joshua 11:12 NCV)
Yes, God could've given Israel other land. America wasn't discovered yet! ;-)
But God told them to destroy everything because of the completely unadulterated sin being committed! And they were serving every god under the sun except for the true God!
These people sacrificed their children to other gods, a completely debased society!
Homosexuality, bestiality, prostitution and on and on ...
Morals didn't exist in Canaan!
How did they get this way? Dudnt Abraham live here at one time?
He did indeed make his home in the land of Canaan, but Abraham was long gone and the people began to swerve to the left, trying new religions, tasting forbidden fruit, playing with sin until they were past the point of no return!
Since they didn't bother to acknowledge God, God quit bothering them and let them run loose. And then all hell broke loose: rampant evil, grabbing and grasping, vicious backstabbing. They made life hell on earth with their envy, wanton killing, bickering, and cheating.
Look at them: mean-spirited, venomous, fork-tongued God-bashers. Bullies, swaggerers, insufferable windbags!
They keep inventing new ways of wrecking lives. They ditch their parents when they get in the way. Stupid, slimy, cruel, cold-blooded. And it's not as if they don't know better. They know perfectly well they're spitting in God's face. And they don't care-worse, they hand out prizes to those who do the worst things best! (Romans 1:28-32 MSG)
And Moses had told Joshua to take em out! God would take those babies home BEFORE they were sacrificed to other gods.
They thought they could get away with hell, and now they were going there!
Joshua was on a mission. And he was going to accomplish it!
Just as God commanded his servant Moses, so Moses commanded Joshua, and Joshua did it.
He didn't leave incomplete one thing that God had commanded Moses. Joshua took the whole country: the mountains, the southern desert, all of Goshen, the foothills, the valley (the Arabah), and the Israel mountains with their foothills, Joshua fought against these kings for a long time. (Joshua 11:15, 16, 18 MSG)
And you know what? We're STILL fighting evil!
We fight an enemy every day of our lives whether we know it or not!
This world has a prince called Satan that corrupts our morals and entices
us to wallow in sin! He wants us to swerve to the left and try new things, have forbidden fruit, worship other gods!
War never ends on this earth! But one day....one day when the world ceases to be, war will end!
We will go HOME and hopefully we will have accomplished our mission, like Joshua, in doing our best to fight against the evil forces of this world!
