Jesus the Firstfruits

When Passover happened in Jesus’ day, the festival of the firstfruits took place in the same weekend. During this festival the Jews would celebrate the early barley harvest. The day of firstfruits is the very day when Jesus rose from the dead. In the New Testament, Jesus is described as the “the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.”

In this message on Resurrection Sunday, Pastor Sebastiaan van Wessem connects the prophetic dots between the festival of the firstfruits and Jesus’ resurrection. Because he rose from the dead, there is a certain hope that we will rise from the dead!

Jesus is the firstfruits of the rest of the harvest.

Jesus is the firstfruits of the harvest, the first of many others who will rise from the dead! In Jesus’ resurrection we, who put our trust and loyalty in him, will experience our resurrection!

The Lord has truly risen… and in his resurrection we have risen… and we will rise!
