NYRSD...NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTION STRESS DISORDER
Top 10 New Year’s Resolutions from a Statista.com Survey
Psychology Today | Dec. 19, 2020
“According to a study from YouGov, nearly 80% of respondents who made some New Year’s resolutions for 2020 failed to achieve at least some of them. Sure, if there’s any excuse for failure, it’s 2020. All of it. But stats from other years tell a very similar story. And usually, our resolutions center around our own behavior. Last year, the top three resolutions were exercising more, losing weight and eating more healthily – outcomes which are largely in our own control.”
Does anyone else see the problem with these? Me! Me! Me!
Romans 12:1-2
Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. And do not be conformed to this world, but be ransformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.
1. I Choose SELFLESS Over SELFISH
Romans 12:1
…by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice…
Galatians 2:20
I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.
If 2020 didn’t prove to you that you need Him, I don’t know what else God will have to use to get your attention.
2. I Choose WORSHIP Over WORSHIPPED
Romans 12:1-2
…holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be
conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
Worship is focusing our mind’s attention and our heart’s affection on God, for who He is and for what He has already done for us.
Romans 12:3
For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned.
Matthew 20:26-28
It shall not be so among you. But whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be your slave, even as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.
You will never look more like your Savior to someone else than when you bend your knee to serve them. If serving is beneath you then leadership is beyond you.
Romans 12:14-21
Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them. Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. Live in harmony with one another. Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly. Never be wise in your own sight. Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all. If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.” To the contrary, “if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.” Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
