October 21st and 22nd, 2017 | tlcrva
October 2017 marks the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation. This monumental transformation of the church and world began when Martin Luther posted Ninety-Five Theses (sentences for discussion) on October 31, 1517. This worship series highlights the Reformation heritage we have received. This is the heritage of God’s grace in Jesus Christ, a heritage we personally experience today and pass on to future generations.

Heritage of Grace: "Grace in the Strangest Places"
The Twentieth Sunday After Pentecost
The people of Israel resented the tax, not just because we all hate taxes, but because these taxes in particular were being paid to people who conquered them, and worse than that was the identity of Israel as the people of God and so they thought to themselves that the payment of taxes to a foreign king was to admit the validity of his kingship and thus an insult to God who was the true and only king.
Here is a great principle laid down by Jesus. A Christian, a disciple of Jesus, is a person with double citizenship.
Two kingdoms theology acknowledges first and foremost that God rules over all. And that we are at the same time a member of God’s kingdom (the right-hand kingdom) the kingdom by which we have God’s grace and salvation, the spiritual kingdom, and the (left hand kingdom) kingdom of the powers of this world.
Our final allegiance is to God our creator, our final authority, our Lord. When our citizenship in this world clashes with the will of our God – it is God’s will that must be done.
As disciples, we bring the two kingdoms together, by the grace of God, to live our lives, our callings, our vocations to the best of our ability, relying on the grace of God in Jesus Christ in all things, to bring glory to his name and to point others to the love of God we have through Christ Jesus.
