Teaching About Divorce
Mt 19:1–12
1#Jn 10:40; 11:7He arose and went from there to the region of Judea to the other side of the Jordan, and the people came to Him again. And again, as was His custom, He taught them.
2#Jn 8:6The Pharisees came to test Him, asking, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?”
3He answered them, “What did Moses command you?”
4#Dt 24:1–4They said, “Moses permitted a man to write a certificate of divorce and to divorce her.”
5#Mt 19:8Jesus answered them, “Due to the hardness of your heart he wrote you this precept. 6#Ge 1:27; 5:2But from the beginning of the creation, God ‘made them male and female.’#Ge 1:27. 7#Ge 2:24; Eph 5:31‘For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife, 8#1Co 6:16and the two shall be one flesh.’ So then they are no longer two, but one flesh. 9What therefore God has joined together, let not man put asunder.”
10In the house His disciples asked Him concerning this matter again. 11#Lk 16:18He said to them, “Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery against her. 12#1Co 7:11And if a woman divorces her husband and marries another, she commits adultery.”
Little Children Blessed

But the disciples rebuked those who brought them. 14But when Jesus saw it, He was very displeased and said to them, “Allow the little children to come to Me, and do not forbid them, for of such is the kingdom of God. 15#Mt 18:3; Lk 18:17Truly I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child shall not enter it.” 16#Mk 9:36And He took them up in His arms, put His hands on them, and blessed them.
The Rich Man

Jesus Foretells His Death and Resurrection a Third Time

Again, He took the twelve aside and began to tell them what would happen to Him, 33#Mt 27:2; 16:21saying, “Listen! We are going up to Jerusalem. The Son of Man will be handed over to the chief priests and the scribes, and they will condemn Him to death and hand Him over to the Gentiles. 34#Mt 16:21; 26:67They will mock Him, and scourge Him, and spit on Him, and kill Him. Then after three days He will rise.”
The Request of James and John

35#Mt 20:20–28Then James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came to Him, saying, “Teacher, we want that whatever we may ask, You would do for us.”

37#Mt 19:28They said to Him, “Grant us to sit, one at Your right hand and the other at Your left hand, in Your glory.”
38#Lk 12:50; Isa 51:22But Jesus said to them, “You do not know what you are asking. Can you drink the cup that I drink and be baptized with the baptism with which I am baptized?”

The Healing of Blind Bartimaeus
Mt 20:29–34; Lk 18:35–43
46#Mt 20:29–34; Jn 9:8Then they came to Jericho. And as He went out of Jericho with His disciples and a great number of people, blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat along the way begging. 47#Mt 9:27; Mk 1:24When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”
48#Mt 19:13Many ordered him to keep silent. But he cried out even more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”
49Jesus stood still and commanded him to be called.
So they called the blind man, saying, “Be of good comfort. Rise, He is calling you.” 50Throwing aside his garment, he rose and came to Jesus.
51#Mk 10:36Jesus answered him, “What do you want Me to do for you?”
The blind man said to Him, “Rabbi, that I might receive my sight.”
52#Mt 9:22; Mk 5:34Jesus said to him, “Go your way. Your faith has made you well.” Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus on the way.
