Coming to Jesus in the Dark

Have you ever tried to "intellectualize" your way into a miracle? It’s a common trap. We look at our bank accounts, our medical reports, or our family dynamics, and we try to use human logic to figure out what God is doing. Nicodemus was the ultimate "logic" guy. He was a master of the Law, a respected leader, and a man who lived by the book. When he slipped through the dark streets of Jerusalem to find Jesus, he brought all that baggage with him.

He says, "Teacher, we know you’re from God because of the signs." He was looking at the physical evidence to try to understand a spiritual King. When Jesus starts talking about being "born again," Nicodemus’s brain hits a wall. He asks, "How can a man enter his mother’s womb a second time?" He wasn't being difficult; he was just trapped in a worldly perspective.

How often do we do the same? We ask God, "How?" when He’s asking us to trust "Who."

Life is more than what you can see, touch, and calculate. There is a spiritual reality flowing beneath your daily routine. If you feel like you’re in the dark today, struggling to understand why things aren't adding up, take a breath. It’s okay to have questions. It’s okay to come to Him at night. But as you sit with Jesus, ask Him to shift your vision. Ask Him to help you stop looking for a physical "fix" and start looking for a spiritual birth. Your life isn't just a series of physical events; it’s a spiritual journey.

Reflection Questions:

  1. What "worldly logic" are you currently using to try to solve a spiritual problem?
  2. If you stopped asking "How is God going to do this?" and started asking "Who is God in this moment?" how would your peace change?

Prayer: Jesus, thank You for not turning me away when I come to You with my "nighttime" doubts. Forgive me for trying to fit Your Kingdom into my small, logical boxes. Today, I give You my "How," and I trade it for Your "Who." Open my eyes to see the spiritual depth of my life. Amen.

Declarative Statement: "I am not a physical being having a spiritual experience; I am a spiritual being, and my life is held by the hand of God."
