In Philippians 2, Paul urges us to adopt the mindset of a servant using Jesus as an example. The uses Jesus' story as a model for how God promotes people in the kingdom.

In the kingdom, service and humility are the platforms for promotion. Both the old and new covenants encourage this kind of big picture thinking because it makes you depend on the promises and rewards of God.

It forces us to move out of our selfish way of life in the daily hustle of providing for our families. In this kind of thinking, you measure yourself against the only standard of life that matters: the will of God. At the end of the day, it is your alignment with God's will that will decide how you spend eternity.
