You’re making a great choice by exploring the Old Testament!
Why?
Because the Old Testament lays the foundation for everything God wants to show you in the Bible.
Think of the Bible as a magnificent skyscraper.
It rises high and looks beautiful.
And though the foundation doesn’t look as majestic as the rest of the building, everything relies on it.
The same is true for the Old Testament. It might not look as majestic as the New Testament, but it lays the foundation for it.
And just as the foundation and the rest of the building form one structure, so do the Old and New Testaments.
They are not separate parts. They form one whole part.
They are not 2 different drawings, but one Big Picture.
What is this Big Picture? And how does the Old Testament lay the foundation for it?
The Big Picture of the Bible could be described like this:
👉 The Bible reveals God’s plan to rescue humanity through Jesus Christ.
So the Bible is a plan. A rescue plan. And it has to do with humanity. That means with all of us—with you.
But…why do we need to be rescued? What is the problem?
That is exactly what the Old Testament shows us — humanity’s biggest problem.
Over the next 4 days, we will unpack this problem by looking at the four main divisions of the Old Testament. We will see:
- The Torah (the five books of Moses) – how the problem began and how it’s uncovered.
- The Historical Books – how serious the consequences of the problem are.
- The Poetic Books – how people suffer under this problem and long for rescue.
- The Prophetic Books – how the problem is exposed and the solution announced.
👉 Start this Bible plan by watching this 2-minute video.
It will give you a clear overview of the Old Testament.
You’ve now discovered the core message of the Old Testament and seen how it fits into the Bible’s Big Picture.
Tomorrow, we’ll explore the first part of the Old Testament — the Torah.
In the meantime, you can read Genesis 3:1-6. This passage shows how the problem started.
