Sometimes we feel safe because we are in a safe place with no danger threatening us. Other times, we feel safe despite the dangers around us, because we are with a strong protector. Children don't need to fear bullies when they're with Dad.

We live in a spiritual war. Evil spirits and powers want to kill, steal, and destroy. But we are safe, because our heavenly champion is greater than they are. Demons tremble before him and beg for mercy.

The sons of Sceva tried to resist these spiritual powers with their own strength, and they demonstrated that human might is feeble. If we resist with our own strength, we will be captured and consumed. Jesus is good news for us because he fights for us against the forces of evil and empowers us to resist, turning us into conquerors of evil.
