NOTICING

Once we have taken the time to slow down and release our fears and anxieties, we are able to see God’s presence in our lives through the things He has blessed us with. Maybe that thing is a heartfelt conversation with a close friend, or a stunning sunset that lights the sky up with a beautiful palette of pink and orange.

In Luke 24, Jesus appears to two disciples on the road to Emmaus, but their distractions keep them from realizing it is him until he is gone. The disciples do not realize Jesus’ presence until they feel a burn in their hearts. When we get caught up in the earthly distractions in our lives, we don’t notice God’s presence or the people around us.

We don’t have to look far to find the different ways that the Lord is present in our lives. God is with us through the people He brings into our lives, and the opportunities He provides us with to share His love with others. Noticing God’s presence fills us with more purpose and fulfillment than anything on this Earth ever could.

And just as encountering God completely changed Saul’s worldview in Acts 9, we, too, are forever changed when we realize that we have been living out God’s purpose. When we know this to be true in our hearts, we walk through life with more clarity and surrender, knowing that each step we take contributes to spreading the gospel of life.

Ask Yourself:

-What things in my life are distracting me from noticing God’s presence in my life? Social Media? That side hustle? A broken relationship?

-Have I noticed anyone around me lately? Does someone need me to notice them?

Pause to Pray: Dear Lord, thank you for your provisions in my life. Help me to see the goodness that you place in my path every day. Just as Saul was transformed by the power of your presence, transform my heart and mind so that I may walk in greater awareness of you and the people in my life…

Take a Next Step: Pick one person in your life with whom you will be more present this week. Use this simple CARE tool to help you notice and be more intentional in your relationships.

The Power of Presence

You spend most of your life in ordinary places—whether at home, work, school, or in your neighborhood. But what if these weren’t just spaces you pass through, but sacred ground where God’s presence goes with you and gives you the power to be truly present and influence others. The power of your presence is the light of Christ in you.
