The Accusers
Have you ever trusted someone with your truth, only to have them turn it against you? I’ll never forget the time I confided in a mentor during one of my lowest moments. I expected grace, but instead, my struggle was exposed. Like the woman caught in adultery, I began to hear the whispers of shame, not only from others but from within.
The Bible tells us that our battle isn’t against people, it’s against spiritual darkness (Ephesians 6:12). But over time, I stopped fighting back and started agreeing with the lies. “You’ll never change. You’re not worthy. You’ll always be this way.”
I wonder if the woman Jesus encountered had those same thoughts, believing her mistake was her identity. But as she stood trembling in front of Him, something beautiful happened. One by one, her accusers dropped their stones. And Jesus looked at her, not with judgment, but with compassion. He asked, “Where are your accusers? Didn’t even one of them condemn you?” Then He said words that changed everything: “Neither do I.”
Sister, maybe you’ve been beating yourself up for years. Maybe it’s hard to believe that God’s love and forgiveness still apply to you. But hear this: Jesus does not condemn you. He’s not pointing a finger. He’s extending His hand. Let go of what they said, what you’ve believed, and what shame keeps replaying. You are not what you did. You are who He says you are: redeemed, restored, and unconditionally loved.
Prayer:
Jesus, it’s hard to silence the voices of guilt and shame. Sometimes I’ve even joined them, believing I wasn’t worth Your forgiveness. But today, I want to believe You. I want to hear Your voice above all the others. Speak to my heart. Remind me that I am not condemned, I am loved, forgiven, and free. Amen.
Reflection Question:
Whose voice have you been listening to more than God’s? What is one lie you need to replace with His truth today?
