Lord, I Am Stuck

When we feel stuck it can be hard to draw near to God, but that is exactly what we need to do. Take a few steps, even baby steps, toward Him. He knows how you feel. He is closer than He may seem. If you do not feel like you can trust His love and His gentleness, do not go by your feelings; go by what you know His Word says.

Find a place to sit by yourself, in the quiet of your home, the park, your office, someplace with no one around, faithfully and humbly approach your Lord, your tender Shepherd, and ask Him for help. Please, do not fear. Listen to the Scripture: “Perfect love casts out all fear” (1 Jn. 4:18). You may not love the Lord perfectly, but when you are in Christ, He loves you perfectly! He has already demonstrated His love for you. “God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Rom. 5:8).

You may feel discouraged, depressed, overwhelmed, or all of this and more. This is certainly normal. Remember, God has gone before you long ago and provided for you in His Son, your Savior. Allow your gentle, tender, loving Shepherd to work His healing and bring the light of His truth into the darkness of your soul. Hide yourself in Him and in what He has done for you. Preach the love of the gospel to yourself. Take a minute to pause and pray right now. Ask the Lord to take you by the hand and gently walk you through the following possibilities as to why we resist looking at our hearts and drawing near to Him. Fear, hurt, abandonment, loss, disappointment, betrayal, illness, failure, self-focus, idols, blindness to sin, disobedience-known and unknown, loss of control, misunderstanding, trauma, and others that may come to your mind.

Before you close your time today, lay the burdens you are aware of before the Lord—everything—any little thing that entraps, binds, encumbers, or weighs us down. Jesus said, “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Mt. 11:28).
