In this 8-day study, we will walk through the passion narratives and unpack how Jesus and his disciples understood them as fulfillments of Old Testament prefigurations of Jesus. Our starting point is that Jesus himself was the first to point out these scriptural connections to the disciples (Luke 24:44-46). And, just as the Holy Spirit opened their minds to understand the things Jesus taught them, we will ask the Spirit to similarly illumine us (John 14:26; 16:12-15).

In the beginning was the Word … but what came next? This plan is for anyone who wants a better understanding of the Bible. It provides a chronological reading program that endeavors to place all biblical passages in their date order. Part Two of this twelve-part one-year reading plan is titled 'Forty Years in the Wilderness, 1491 BC–1452 BC'.

This is the third part of a reading plan that works through every verse in the Old Testament once, every verse in the New Testament three times, and the Psalms eight times over three years following the lectionary pattern of reading in the Psalms, Old Testament, and New Testament each day.

In the book of Numbers, God demonstrates himself as a pillar of fire and a pillar of smoke, faithfully leading his often rebellious people through the wilderness. Although the faithless wilderness generation was barred from entering the promised land, God was raising up a generation to lead the people from their wandering into the conquest of the land of Canaan.
